Talking New User with Samsung GX-20

Hi.

I just bought a Samsung GX-20 , and it`s supposedly made by Pentax and is virtualy the same as the Pentax K20D

I am a member on a number of forums and was looking for one more specific to the GX-20/ K20D

I cannot seem to find a equivilent Samsung forum , so i will lurk here if it`s OK.

Thanks

John.

Welcome, the GX-20 is indeed a pentax K20D in disguise. Anything that goes for the K20D will mirror on the Samsung.

This is a very friendly place and there is lot's to learn. Enjoy!

There is one difference between the GX-20 and K20 - The GX 20 only saves as DNG or JPG - it does not use PEF at all. The other differences are cosmetic differences such as the button shapes. The only down side to no PEF is the file sizes that are saved. So buy a 6Gb card instead of a 4 Gb, and the operation is the same

the Samsung comes with a 2 year warranty , it has a easier menus, less keys to press, it shows the exposure setting on the lcd in live view, and with memory prices getting low and lower the difference between DNG and PEF will be no consequence soon!

The K20D is supposed to have Enhanced Dynamic Range , but it has been shown to cause more noise in dark areas on images

You could probably flash a GX20 to a K20D and visa versa, the cameras are functional identical it`s just a few Pentax features are not enabled on the GX20.
