On my way to photograph another car rally, I stopped in at a tea house on a lookout above Nowra, NSW, Australia. There seated at another table was an English gentleman with not one but two K10D in front of him, grumbling about the changing light and the poor food service.
So I introduced myself and in doing so met 'Confused'. Currently on a four month world globetrotting holiday. He showed me his two lenses, Sigma 10-20mm and Tamron 18-250mm as they are two I do not own and like all things LBA sets in. In return I was able to show him the Camera Armor I would never be without on my camera.
Next we looked at several pictures he took while in the USA and he talked to me about this forum. So in good faith and as a good Pentaxian, I decided I would sign up 18 months after buying my K10D.
I mainly do rally photography and was drawn to the K10D by it's weather sealing and the in body stabilisation. I have never looked back. I was also helped by the fact while researching different lens to make up my kit, I chanced upon a Sigma 170-500mm plus x2 TC and two filters to match for $A600 the lot. So I bought that immediately before I actually bought the camera.
I hope I can learn more from this site and look forward to many good times.
It's a great hobby, looking at other people's cameras. Always reminds me of my early childhood, looking over the cubicles in the school dunnies to see what the next kid had.
That long lens sounds like something I could really do with here on Kangaroo Island, with so much wildlife. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your work with it. Reading the Weekend Australian today I see NSW is a billion bucks in the red. You'd better buy up quick, mate!
Welcome to this great forum. You've just instantly gained several hundred new friends.
Speaking of "live wire shock": I survived a couple of these (repairing a tape deck, washing maschine, ...). Pretty strong impression, I must say. Can make your heart go nuts, even hours after the event, so cannot recommend it.
Confused was out here .... and he never told us ... damn.
And on the South Coast as well ... if we'd known we could have at least organised a day trip out.
Oh well ... welcome to the forums ... at least you found your way here anyway.
I have been meaning to get out to at least one rally ... one day.
