hello to everyone

Just saying hello to everyone!

I got a Pentax SLR a couple years ago (2003), and now that my son was born I was looking to get a new camera. At the same time thought it be a good idea to join this group.

Any quick suggestions. I'll update everyone as soon as I buy one

Hi Alex.
Welcome to the forum.
Which camera do you have now? And what are you looking for in a new one?
You've probably come at a good time to get a new dSLR, as the Pentax K-x has recently been released and is one of the best performing digital crop cameras available - and it's an entry level model!

If you would like a current model you've got two choices the k-7 or the k-x. Both are killer cameras. The k-x is absolutely killer in low light. The k7 is the upper level model and has weather-sealing.

If you aren't dead set on getting the newest camera out there, the k20d, k200d and k2000 are all excellent cameras that will serve you for a good long time. The k20d and the K200d both have weather-sealing.
