Hi from Melbourne, AUS

Hi, this is my first post but I've been lurking around for a couple of weeks doing some research.

I don't have an SLR yet but after some research I've decided to go with Pentax and get a K7. At the moment I only own a 6+ year old Nikon 995 which was decent back in the day but is now pretty obsolete. Recently I've been playing around with other peoples DSLR's (mostly Canons) and have decided to make the plunge.

Now I just need to decide on which lens/lenses to start off with.

Welcome here mate.
You'll be pleased with the K-7 - it's a fine piece of engineering.
Start off with the basic kit series, like the DA 18-55 and 50-200, unless you already know what you want, and what you will do with them...

Look forward to your contributions.

Welcome Ryan, I'm from Sydney.

I got my first DSLR earlier this year (previously had a Canon PowerShot PnS, and experimented with manual modes). I went the second-hand route and got a DS from a member here. Still very very happy with it (although obviously it's no K-7) and it's more than sufficient for my needs. I wolud have liked SR, and perhaps better ISO performance and AF speed, but it's a great camera.

I borrowed an old screw mount manual-everything 50mm (Super Tak 50mm 1.4) from dad, so got an adapter and had that on for a couple of months. Manual-everything forced me to learn the functions on the camera, and having only one lens forced me to get to know the focal length, and move to compose. I really liked the 50mm esp for portraits, so eventually upgraded to a FA 50mm with AF. The good thing with Pentax is backward compatability. I then built my kit from there (you can see my profile) - all used lenses.

All the best!
