I love the contrast. I suppose I could have poured throught the exif data, but how did you get that pure black background? Posed in a studio?

Great image!!! Should be a poster for a sports company....
And in reply to leroy....One way is to remove Background via photoshop but camera techniques as such are to set the maximum sync speed for your flash for say 1/180th and a rather high F stop then bang the forground with a heavy dose of a external flash (guide of 50m @ 100 iso or so) there giving bright foreground but hopefully the background (if far enough away) will not recive enough light to show up in the image.

This was shot at night, so the ambient light was quite low. I may have lowered it a bit more in post. Thanks for the comments!
