I'm surprised you didn't get crushed by Feds from the FBI, CIA, DHS, DOT, etc. wanting to know why you're taking pictures of airplanes.

UA Airways Boeing 737-400
Reagan Airport is a great place to do plane spotting. There is a huge parking where you have excellent sight. However this pic must have been taken at some other place at Reagan, since it is a frontal approach. At the parking you see take offs, and at that point the machines start to bank:

It is the same parking lot on approach from the North into Reagan 19 where lots of people go for picnic, walk/bike along the river, boating and plane-spotting.
As far as the feds go, there probably were some watching everyone but I am hopeful/confident they are trained enough to read people and gauge their actions better than most give them credit for.
