Tenerife 2007 | | Description | Took this while on holiday in Tenerife. I wanted to try to capture the contrast of the different colours/textures. Wished I'd experimented a little more with different focal lengths. This shot was at 35mm. I did try another at 45mm but distance was more blurred. | | Camera | Pentax K10D | | Lens | Standard Kit Lens 18-55mm | | Location | Near Los Cristianos, Tenerife | |

Flowers, Lava, and Sea. Tenerife 2007
The contrast between sea, lava and greenery is a promising idea here, but sadly there are a number of things that let it down.
Firstly, there is nothing in this photo that appears sharp. The K10D and 18-55 DA are capable of far more than this. A large expanse of green like this needs a lot more detail to retain interest.
Secondly, the horizon is distractingly non-horizontal. There have be exceptionally good reasons for wonky horizons such as this, and there is nothing in the shot (such as an alternative subject that commands one's gaze) that justifies it.
Finally, the lava, while unusual, lacks detail, and appears mostly as an expanse of black between the green and the blue. It's the one thing about the shot that is really unusual, so might have warranted more attention.
Sorry to sound harsh, hope this is food for thought nonetheless. I've learned the most from the most apparently brutal comments on my work. It's for the best!!
