The Strand in Galveston, Texas |
| Description |
This is some architectural detail of an old building on the Strand in Galveston, Texas. The Strand was the business district of Texas in the 19th century, before the Great Storm of 1900 basically wiped out Galveston and it's commerce (~6,000 people died). By the time Galveston was rebuilt, the commerce moved to Houston, Dallas and other cities within Texas and Galveston became a small city stuck in time. However, there are lots of old buildings that survived the storm (and subsequent ones, including last year's Hurricane Rita), and it's a very photogenic place.
I took this shot with a $5 Sears lens, 135 f/2.8. Not bad for $5!
