Like most journeys, mine began with a single step.
As a normal 9 to 5'er with little extra cash to throw around, I had mostly resigned myself to snapping away with a point and shoot, telling myself that one day when I am big, I would get a DSLR.
Well my 43rd birthday rolled around in November 2009, and I decided I was big enough.
After a lot of internet research I became the proud owner of a Pentax K-7.
At that point it was still very a fun hobby, and as my daughters rode horses, there was a natural attraction to these great clumsy animals brought on by being around them so much. It's fair to say that without my girls riding, I may never have begun to take my photography seriously.
When my daughters finally got to do their first show at the local equestrian club, I was surprised to see that there was no official photographer. To me it seemed a perfect opportunity to start a little sideline business.
And thus the idea of offering equine photography services was born.
Shortly after that event, Wolfworx Photography was officially launched, and it has been an interesting journey ever since. By no means an easy one, it has taken the best part of 2 years to really get people on board with my ideas, and get them to buy my photos in addition to their own happy snaps.
It has also grown into a multifaceted business now. I have always loved the horse & rider bond which is quite magical. I try and capture some of that in personal horse and rider photo shoots. But one thing always leeds to another and my love of feminine grace and beauty soon found me doing more woman centric shoots.
Equipment
Currently I have the K-7 and a K-5, the K-5 has been a sad tale, nearly a year old and it has had it's second mirrorbox failure, which is rather sad as I love that camera.
Lens lineup is a great mix of old and new. 85 & 135mm M42's, 28 & 50mm M primes, and then 70-200mm & 50-500mm Sigmas.
Many people ask "Why WolfWorx?"
There are three main reasons:
- I did not want to be another "Joe Soap Photography", it is very common here for people to use their names, and I don't like it
- I wanted something short, catchy and easy to remember and
- I like wolves

Brian is not only an amazing photographer who captures beautiful and perfect moments - he is also wonderful to be around. He did a shoot for my horse and I and he captured only what I can see normally (our very special bond), now everyone else can see our bond too (something you cannot explain). He made me feel comfortable and I really enjoyed the shoot - we had lots of fun. I also look up to Brian because he is one of the reasons why I started exploring photography more - he has taught me so much and I continue to follow his amazing work which inspires me every day. So thank you Brian!

@Eulogy :-) I seldom do things the "right" way it seems. The 70-200 is a new addition that was meant to cut down on lens swaps :-) However the older primes have so much character that they still get used a lot

I like this story and I can relate. 40 myself, finally bought a DSLR and since we are an equestrian family and I don't always want to ride at the horse shows, I also noticed the lack of professional Photographer and I also remember how hard it was to show and take pictures of my girls or have someone take pictures of me...a nightmare. Last year I decided to take a year off showing and take pictures of everyone at the show, play and learn until I could get the perfect Barrel run or Jump and place them on the show facebook page so everyone could enjoy....it is so rewarding to have people using those pictures as their FB profile pictures and albums. Before being able to take the right pictures it did take me a long time to get the right settings, so I was wondering if you would share your settings for your action shots, I could still improve mine :0). Will visit your FB page!
Correct Mr Manual, Red Dress was off camera flash, the others all available light.

Superb company name, man. It works phonologically and graphologically. I admire the almost tangible atmosphere you are able to create with your photographs through the subtleties of light, environment and costume. Are they all (apart from the red dress) shot using only natural light?
