At CP+ Pentax announced the next generation of waterproof compact cameras featuring the Optio WG-3 (now available for pre-order).
The WG-3 has lots of new features compared to its predecessor, including better waterproofing, wireless charging, an electronic level, and a compass display. See the video below for a live demonstration of these features and more!
We expect to see the WG-3 hit the shelves in March. Stay tuned for an in-depth review!

Does Pentax have a single non-Japanese only speaking employee? Yes, I know they are a Japanese company, but being an international company, you'd think you could send one guy to trade show that didn't just speak Japanese.
This may be the first rugged/waterproof Pentax that I would seriously consider. It seems a bit tougher than earlier versions but I have minor concerns about the image stabilization and electronics like GPS and compass, which might compromise ruggedness. In the end, it'll come down to image quality. If the WG-3 can match the beat of the tough competition, I might just go for it.
Waiting on the spec of the wide adapter just for curiosity's sake. great camera for sure, will be adding this to my collection for sure. Great job Pentax!
be careful with your fingers while showing the batery door...))) time 2:14 of the video...
Any samples for IQ!?
I'm on the fence for this one ... but I like what I see even though I still think design wise looks like a shoe's sole.
I think it will be a battle between MX-1 or WG-3 ... hmmmmm ....
Nice! WA under water is a bonus, right... :D looks great this is quite opposite to that MX-1 have to choose...I would like P&S in addition to my DSLR gear. Let's see!
I'm partially surprised at the Wide Angle attachment, wondering how bad the distortion is, and why you'd really want to go wider. I think the WG series is pretty dang wide for a Compact...
The compass looks really responsive for an electronic device. Might have to consider upgrading my mother from her WG-1 for her birthday :D
Pretty sweet. The wide angle attachment was a surprise. And a compass to boot.
I REALLY like this camera after seeing this video. I think I'll be ditching my WG-1 and getting one of these.
