The Optio VS20, which we posted about a few hours ago, has just been officially announced by Pentax USA as well as Pentax Japan. It looks like we beat them to the press releases, though!
The VS20 is now posted in our Camera Database.
It seems that Pentax has really focused on "going vertical" with this camera, not only thanks to the second shutter release button on the side, but also thanks to auto-rotation both of the screen image and the final photograph.
Pentax expects this camera to ship in February and confirms its MSRP of $249.95. It is not yet available on retailer web sites.

sometimes I wonder how people can be so judgemental. how could you judge this one's fail before look at the sample photos. and the most amazing thing is, how could you say that Fujifilm 500 EXR is better than this new optio? anywhere a new camera announced, the cynics arise..
16 MPx on such a tiny sensor can't lead to great ISO capabilities. It's sad to say but as says greeneg, Fuji has a far more attractive product line in the compact market. Also, we would appreciate to know the lens' aperture. It's not written on the zoom, so it must be a poor performer. The dual button is a good idea, but that's not we're waiting for. Pentax is known for its image quality, not for its gadget look or tiny size, and in term of IQ, I've never seen anything near a S95 in the pentax line.
Also, I'm a bit concerned about the lack of K-mount lenses we've got recently. Zero in 2011, not much on track for 2012... Pentax glasses are ageing. Hello Pentax, is there anybody in here ?
Not totally impressed with this. My wife just bought a Fujifilm 500 EXR which does more than than this except for 15X vs 20X and costs $100 less. I would agree that this would have been a better camera last year as opposed to this year.
can't wait to see the sample shots..
aghhhh....pentaxians are waiting for another guy!
