Pentax 645Z IR Announced

Ricoh Imaging (Japan) has announced the Pentax 645Z IR, a special version of the Pentax medium-format flagship that is sensitive to infrared light.  The infrared filter normally present in front of the camera's sensor has been removed on this model; the camera is thus able to capture both the visible and infrared spectra.  Infrared-only photos are possible if an IR filter is mounted on the lens.

The 645Z IR is otherwise identical to the Pentax 645Z, which you can read about in our in-depth review.  Further specifications and infrared-specific highlights are available on the Japanese 645Z IR product page.

Orders for the 645Z IR will start being accepted on November 27th, and the camera is expected to ship by January 15th, 2016.  Since the 645Z IR is meant for use by forensic specialists, research institurions, museums and government agencies, it will not be sold by retailers or offered to consumers.  Institutional customers will be subject to a usage agreement and can place orders by contacting Ricoh here.
