In a recent news post by Pentax Germany, details about three new Pentax K-mount lenses have been revealed:
- SMC Pentax-DA 560mm F5.6
- SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8
- SMC Pentax-D FA 645 90mm F2.8
The first two lenses at both K-mount and are no surprise at this point, as they were previously hinted at via the Pentax 2012-2013 lens roadmap.
Based on the aperture ratings of these lenses, it's likely that the new DA 50mm lens will be a budget alternative to the FA 50mm F1.4, and that it will feature the same plastic body construction as the DA 35mm F2.4.
The DA 560mm lens should be an affordable telephoto similar to regular DA-series lenses in design, suggested by the lack of a * (star) or SDM designation.
Finally, the D-FA 645 90mm F2.8 is a short portrait telephoto lens designed for the Pentax 645D, but also covering the full 645 film image circle. It will roughly correspond to a 60mm on an APS-C DSLR and will be weather-sealed.
Once these lenses are revealed at CP+, we will bring you more details as well as photos!
In addition to these three definitive announcements, the following 4 products were hinted at:
- Pentax DA XS series lens (designed for the K-01)
- Pentax Q telephoto zoom lens
- Pentax Q ultra-compact lens
- Genuine Pentax Q K-mount adapter with built-in shutter, manual focus only (K mount -> Q)
Finally, Pentax confirmed that the SMC Pentax-D FA 645 25mm F4 lens, which was announced last year, will finally start shipping in the coming months (est. April).

Find your perfect Lens

The last couple of weeks have been fantastic for us. So many new products in the production pipeline. Looks like Pentax have a good future with Ricoh.
If the 50mm 1.8 is a budget version of FA 1.4 does it mean the 50 1.8 covers FF or is it 50mm on a crop camera?
Product images for all 8 newly announced CP+ exhibits are now available at the Pentax Japan site.
560? Bugger. I was hoping for a 580.
Let the whiny bitch-fest continue. There's just no pleasing some people.
I for one am really excited about Pentax's future, and feel confident in sticking with the brand.
What about an external electronic viewfinder that is compatible with Q and K-01?
I don't understand why they would go from the DA*300 f4 to the DA 560 with nothing in between.
It's funny. A month ago I was in the depth of Pentax depression. CES was wrapping up and all the camera companies it seemed had new stuff except for Pentax. Pentax had not had anything new since the Q. Now we have a new mirrorless camera and a lens roadmap! Pentax lives!
i'm getting the 560 as soon as it comes out! BOOYAH... and i'll pick up the wide angle zoom later in 2013 when it comes out
I don't quite understand the need for a new 50mm f1.8 da lens when 50mm f1.7 f lenses are readily available. But the 560mm fills the need for a longer telephoto.
Pentax... too many new announcements in such a short time... be still my beating heart...
Certainly a good couple of additions - a non-Ltd 'normal' DA lens, and a long telephoto that is both affordable and reasonably fast for its FL.
SR's in the camera ;)
560mm lens a bit much? 840mm eff? Good luck keeping that steady.
I agree with dpreview's assessment: a 50mm lens serves no useful purpose on APS-C. It should have been 60mm. Both macro 90mm eff and fast 90mm eff are obvious gaps in the Pentax lineup, worth filling before make a fast 75mm eff.
How about a fast wide angle?
FINALLY!!! A DA50 woohooo!!!
I am very happy for these rumors.
but i hope that pentax keeps the reflex system.
Hopefully the DA 560mm will be weather-sealed like the DFA 100mm WR.
Jeeze -- Unless the lenses are obviously for studio work why oh why aren't they weather sealed/proof. Come on. We don't all live in sere dust free environments. Pentax's best sucesses have been in the rugged outdoor users. Why not play to that market. I love that I don't need to baby my K-5 and *lenses and they still perform beautifully.
I would hope the 560 is weather sealed but the 50 doesn't need to be. Considering the most used application of a 50 is portraits... how often do you think people like getting their portraits taken while soaking wet under heavy rain?
I'm curious how the Q is selling, and why R&D money is still going there. I can't imagine designing a new lens for an install base of so few people (Q mount) is more worthy than designing new lenses for a much larger population (K mount).
An affordable long lens is exactly the one thing I've been waiting for. So excited about the SMC Pentax-DA 560mm F5.6!
I hope the DA 50 & 560 are weather sealed? .-.-.
Yay! 50mm 1.8!
This is great news! We are in for a treat!
