Just over 5 weeks ago, we posted the official announcement of the Pentax K-30, and even though demo units have recently been circulating, the K-30 has yet to hit the shelves. Amazon.co.uk, which originally quoted a release date of June 25th, is now stating that the K-30 won't start shipping until July 20th.
Despite all the praise than the K-30 has gotten in recent (p)reviews written by various magazines and photo sites, a camera that it's not available for purchase won't do Pentax any good, nor can it fully be evaluated. Meanwhile, Canon announced the comparable new Rebel t4i and pushed it out to stores just over a week later. We remain hopeful that Pentax will start delivering the K-30 soon, perhaps even in time for our users' summer travels!

You guys, on Pentax's Facebook page, they replied back to me saying that in the US, it will release this week.
Mrs 'calsan' will be getting one of these, for sure. That way, when I buy a new lens, it's for both of us! hooray!
It's up for release at stores in Manila around July 12 or 15.
Translation from german forum by a user who has pre-release camera, not sure of how much weight to place in it however or whether details are lost in translation:
"Pentax assumes the end of next week will start the delivery.
Certainly not in the same mass but in moderation Thumbs up"
Hopefully Pentax are taking a bit of extra time to make sure their QC is absolutely right this time. Better a few weeks delay than another QC fiasco like the problems that plagued the early K-5s.
I hope this is not going to be late July. Have a holiday booked and then the Olympics - was hoping for a new camera for both and have held off as wanted to see reviews of the K-30 and handle in store and then hopefully buy (if both OK). The announcement-to-release time does seem long. With only a few Pentax lenses, the temptation to switch to Canon/Nikon becomes greater as my need to replace my *istDS gets greater.
You can still have it in time for your vacation. You'll just have to change your vacation destination from Scotland to Japan.
I was hoping this camera would be available before the July 4th holiday. I may be taking a vacation to Scotland at the end of July and was hoping to purchase this camera with the 18-135 kit. I would have preferred a few weeks to get to know both camera and lens. I could buy the 18-135 for my K-5 seperately but pay almost $200 more for it. I'm hoping we get a pleasant surprise with a release before July 20. Once again, Pentax makes it hard to be loyal. People want this equipment for the summer season!
When there is no announcement from Pentax, we complaint that Pentax have no news to new camera model.
Now Pentax announce the K-30 early and we complaint they announce it too early and thus we 'can't wait' that long for it.
That is why Pentax won't announce any FF plan even they are working on it.
Oh well...
@Heie, That's right!
To those thinking of canceling your pre-order and/or switching systems: be patient. We've waited a very long time to have this camera, what's 1 more month? We all know it will crush the competition - there's nothing like it. Just be patient
This thing is so darn cool looking, I'm buying it. I should probably invest in some glass but i gotta have the K30!
Did Pentax ever actually announce the 25th of June as the release date, or announce a delay to July? I don't know what they're like in the US, but here in the UK Amazon are (in)famous for simply inventing product release dates which bear little or no resemblance to reality.
Not good news for someone like me. I expected there could be minor delays but I pre-ordered banking on them having it to me before the end of July. I hope they can get whatever it is holding them up sorted out and get 'em shipped to the States asap or I'll have to cancel my pre-order and wait till the price drops. Come on Pentax, don't you want my money ;)...
I've been strongly tempted to sell my K-x and my $3000+ worth of lenses to switch to the Olympus E-M5 / Micro Four Thirds, but I've been holding out for some K-30 reviews before making my decision. But with more glowing reviews coming out everyday for the E-M5 and the m43 lenses, it's getting harder and harder to resist the urge to sell all of my Pentax gear. Hurry up Pentax!
Bummer, local distro in my country told us that this camera will be available on the 15th...
It became available on 29th as planed in Japan.
Oh like the Nex 7 and and the Em-5 didn't have delays too.
Sheesh
Official press release only said that the release would be "July 2012", so if it's released before August, it's on schedule.
Demo models in stores in Japan now.
Think, if I remember correctly, the release date is 30th here in Japan.
Wonder what the hold up is cus 3 weeks is a long time.
2nd paragraph, first sentence should read: "...a camera that isn't available".
The sooner they release it, the more of a time gap there is between now and when I hope to possibly buy it come income tax season. A bigger window means more of a chance for bug squashing if need be between now and then!
This all should have been worked out before making the anoucment. Two mounths is abserbly long wait in this day and age. I'm about ready to cancel my order.
better get it right before releasing it...
Well, it might be due to extremely high demand...
