The price of the Pentax K-5 (click here for our review) keeps on diving in the US, with pricing as low as $899 at Adorama camera, $909 at B&H photo, and $919 at Abe's of Maine and Amazon. These are among the largest Pentax retailers in the US, and they are all authorized Pentax dealers, meaning your camera will come with the full manufacturer's warranty should you decide to buy it from one of them.
At a price of practically half the original MSRP, there's no doubt that the Pentax K-5 will soon see a successor and in turn be discontinued. If you wish to learn more about the K-5, visit its entry in our camera database!

well, k-7 was on the same boat before.
$8xx before discontinued
so no surprise
price of Pentax camera usually drop faster than competitor
When I bought the k-5 1.5 years ago, there was the Epson rebate which literally made the k-5 around $1150. My thought was k-5's price would never fall below $1100... look at what's happening now!
The k-5 is already hard to find on Japanese sites.
Hopefully this means they're going to announcing the successor sometime this year. Hopefully.
Nice strategy.
Almost give the body away, but make a killing on the Pentax brand lenses.
I bought my K-5 a year and three months ago for 710 GBP brand new with warranty. For the current price it is an EXCELLENT buy!! But..bring on the FF!! :-D
Even if the K5 is soon to be discontinued item, I believe the current price is very fair for what it offers.
If the price in the US is dropping and its not a global drop this quite possibly is an economic factor just as much, if not more than the possibility of a 'new' version. I come from a corporate finance background and there could be any hundred number of reasons for it. If you are gonna speculate please include economic speculation not merely "the new model soon to be released" speculation :) LOL!!!!
maybe the k30 is a lot better
Damn it. Why is this price-dropping NOT happening worldwide? It's still stuck at introductory price here in the Philippines! (close to USD1,500 approx)
Vicboy, I hope you are being facetious...
I am glad I was able to sell mine before the drop- I was able to get a little bit more that I can use towards my next photography purchase. I think I'll get a 180mm macro or a 300/f4.
Damn, if I waited for 6 more months, I caould have bought my K-5 for 100 dollars less!
i bet they have something new to announce, but they try to sell all the K-5 on the market before doing announcement.
