On October 25th, Pentax released firmware version 1.10 for the recently-discontinued Pentax Q.
This update makes the camera compatible with the latest 06 Telephoto Zoom and K to Q mount adapter and includes various stability improvements. According to user reports, this firmware update also adds focus peaking to the focusing menu. If this is true, then this firmware represents a bold move by Pentax Ricoh to make loyal Pentax users happy!

@VisualDarkness thanks for the info, mate. I'll stick with my Nex5N then...
Downloaded and working great. Auto focus seems faster too, can't wait to play with focus peaking. Still waiting for my adapter to ship!
There is focus peaking all right! youtu.be/trNyS0YXO_A
@ducdao Based on the limited time I've tried the Nex 7 in stores and the short period I've owned the Q I would say that Sony got way better peaking, no question. Still Q is decent and improves things a lot.
Thanks for the real-time info!
@Tanzer the focus peaking is active up until the point you start the recording, it does not display again until you stop the recording.
@GXRUser the SR and input of focal length works with my Fotodiox adapter. The focal length input pops up whenver you turn it on and it does not recognize a lens.
Can anyone comment whether the focus peaking remains active during video shooting?
Great update...focus is better by far now!
Very cool. First time I can remember a Pentax firmware really adding features to my camera. Love the Q more now that I installed 1.10 and tested the new features and the Q10 can wait. Also a red letter day as b&h shipped me a K-5iis overnight!
Can anyone confirm that the SR is active and allows manual input of focal length information without the Pentax K adapter attached.
I´m more than happy. I just used it with the DAL 35mm f2.4 (as 196mm)and perform very well for my taste!
Regarding the focus peaking, for those who have Sony Nex5 camera, how is the focus peaking from the Q compared to the one from the Nex5?
Yes it's true. In my case, though, it also reset my user configs! grr..
As well as focus peaking and adaptor compatibility, the focus is now much, much snappier on my Q too, especially in poor light. Good job Pentax Ricoh. Loving this little camera even more.
It adds both Focus Peaking and manual focal length input. It's true!
