Sigma Addresses 17-70mm Shake Reduction Issue

Sigma Japan has just released a statement addressing owners of the Pentax version of the 17-70mm F2.8-4 "Contemporary".

Earlier this month, our users discovered an issue in which this lens failed to properly report the current focal length to the camera.  This would lead to improper stabilization by the camera's Shake Reduction system and occasionally resulted in blurry images.

Today, Sigma has resolved the issue through a lens firmware update.  Sigma will update your lens's firmware at a warranty/service center free of charge, or you can install the firmware update at home via the Sigma USB dock.  New lenses that leave the factory will come pre-installed with the updated firmware.  Sigma is to be commended for its prompt attention to the problem.

If you own a USB dock, the Sigma Optimization Pro software should automatically check for the firmware update when you connect your lens.
