Cactus V6 Review
What's In The Box?
What’s in the Box? There will be no "V6 Duo" package as it was offered with the V5. |
A V6 comes with:
- one flash stand,
- a user manual, and
- a photo album
(showing work of strobists, including lighting diagrams).
The flash stand is much sturdier than the one that was shipped with the V5 and is a very welcomed extra because often in order to setup an off-camera light source, one does not need more than a flash on a V6 which itself sits on a flash stand.
Unlike the Cactus V5, the Cactus V6 does not come with any trigger cables so anyone with the need to connect to a flash or studio strobe via a cable needs to buy these extra. This decision is defensible given that a V6 will more often than not be used to remote control the power of a flash and the latter is not possible through a trigger cable, only by connecting the flash to the V6’s hot-shoe.
Accessories (Not Included)
A trigger cable always features a 3.5mm male plug to connect with a V6 and then another male plug to interface with a flash, strobe, camera, etc. Choices include
Connectors | Cactus label | Example application |
3.5mm ↔ 3.5mm | CA-350 | trigger a flash; |
3.5mm ↔ 6.35mm | CA-360 CA-635 | trigger studio strobes |
3.5mm ↔ PC | CA-200 CA-100 | trigger a flash with a PC socket or use a camera’s PC socket as a trigger source |
Such cables are commonly available and need not be of the “Cactus” type. Any standard cable, e.g., stereo audio cables, will do.
Further accessories include:
- 3.5mm 1 2.5mm shutter release cable (Cactus SC-C1)
- a mini-USB cable (Cactus MU-1)
- lanyard (Cactus CL-1)
Again, any standard cable, e.g., a standard stereo 3.5mm male to 2.5mm male audio adapter cable will work as a shutter release cable for Pentax cameras.
