Fujifilm X100s Review
Introduction
The Fujifim X100s replaces the X100 which created quite a stir when it was introduced due to its classy retro design, unique and excellent viewfinder, and large sensor (APS-C sized).
The X100 was, however, marred by a number of quirks which made it a less than pleasant tool in practical use. Fujifilm has addressed many of these issues with the new X100s, which otherwise shares the exterior looks with its predecessor.
The X100s has a 23 mm F2.0 fixed focal length lens. With the APS-C sized sensor this corresponds to a focal length of 35 mm in the 24 x 36 mm (aka full frame) format. This is an ideal focal length for many types of photography if you're only allowed one lens!
The changes from the X100 to the X100s are:
- 16 MP sensor, up from 12 MP
- Phase detect capabilty built into the sensor for faster autofocus
- Improved manual focus: Focus peaking and split image and a more responsive focusing ring
- Electronic viewfinder upgraded to 2.3 MP from 1.4 MP
- Full 1080p HD video, not just 720p
Is the X100s stilled marred by quirks? Read on to find out!
