Film SLR Compatibility

This lens can be mounted on any Pentax K-mount camera, old or new.  But like other modern lenses, the D FA 28-105mm lacks an aperture ring since the aperture setting is controlled digitally these days.

Although the lens is compatible with film SLRs, it will be limited to manual focus, and it minimally requires an A-series body such as the Super Program for proper aperture control.  On older bodies such as the K1000 or ME, the lens will always shoot at the smallest aperture, which makes it more or less useless.

Terminology

  • HD: High Definition coating with lower reflectance compared to standard SMC coating
  • SP: Super Protect coating applied to the front element to repel dust and sand
  • ED: Extra-low Dispersion elements to reduce aberrations
  • WR: Weather Resistant moisture protection
  • DC: Direct Current AF motor, a very reliable technology compared to early Pentax motors
  • [IF]: Internal Focusing; the lens does not extend while focusing
