The lens was originally announced on November 6th, 2013 and it started shipping in the US in early December.
This lens is not full-frame compatible and will produce significant vignetting or a circular image when mounted on a full-frame camera, depending on focal length and aperture.
In addition to the HD coating, the front element is treated with the Pentax Super Protect coating, which helps repel dust, prevents scratches, and makes cleaning easier. The lens itself is not marketed as being dust-resistant, however, as the lack of internal focusing hampers this.
