P-TTL Test Images
P-TTL With Manual Exposure Mode
Manual exposure mode with P-TTL provides full control over depth of field and as we see from the examples below, the exposure is consistent over a given lens (but not across lenses). We also compared live view with using the viewfinder and as expected found no difference between the two.
- Live view (rows 1 through 5)
- View finder (rows 6 through 10)
Setup:
- Pentax K-3 in M exposure mode
- Unprocessed JPGs (except for scaling)
- Autofocus with center focus point using view finder
- smc Pentax-A, -F, and -FA 50mm F1.4 lenses
- AF 360 FGZ II flash mounted on camera
- Direct flash, zoom head at 48 mm matching the lenses

Observations:
- F and FA lenses perform virtually identical
- F and FA images are underexposed
- The A lens tends towards overexposure with a few blown highlights
- Flash zoom must be set manually with A-series lenses
- The exposure is the same whether one uses live view or the view finder
