Pentax 17-70mm Lens Comparison

Sigma 17-70 v1: Overview

The old Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4.5 DC Macro has long been a favourite of many Pentax users, as evidenced by the user reviews in our lens database and forum. It offers a convenient zoom range, a relatively fast maximum aperture and good macro capabilities (although it is not a true macro lens). These qualities mean it can serve many purposes, the lens being a bit of a jack-of-all-trades. It has often been named the ideal single lens to always have around.

The lens is a DC (Digital camera) lens, which means is has the APS-C image circle and isn't designed for full-frame cameras.

What's in the box

The lens comes with a dedicated, petal-shaped bayonet hood, and a user manual. In Canada, it is covered by a 5 years warranty. The rear cap is a common design used by Sigma and Tamron, and is sadly one we do not like at all. It locks in place by twisting, like most other caps, but its design means only one precise angle will allow it to be locked in place. A small annoyance, but it means placing the rear cap on the lens by touch only is difficult and may require a few attempts. The front cap is of the side-pinch type, allowing easy removal even with the hood in place.
