Pros: Solid build
Cons: Soft, poor microcontrast and colour rendition

I got this lens as part of a film SLR package to do some travel photography with.
I regret not taking my dSLR with kit lenses for that trip - I would have gotten infinitely better results if I had.

This lens leaves much to be desired.
Colours are flat, contrast is very ordinary, detail is barely appreciable, and corner softness extends even as far as the centre of the images it produces. The psuedo macro setting on the lens further degrades the already paltry resolution this lens has to offer.

By far my worst lens ever used, but that said, it still gave me a couple of keepers - the conditions must have been absolutely perfect for those results.

Pros: Image quality and contrast are acceptable
Cons: Tricky for me to work

The lens has a few ways to eventually get your image in focus at different focal lengths. There is a separate ring for macro settings which can also be turned in conjunction with the push/pull and twist mechanism to get images into focus at different focal lengths. But being more of variable focus system, when you focus on a subject and then increase or decrease magnification, you loose focus on the subject completely. There are tricks to this lens for sure. Maybe someone will educate me further.
My copy was basically given to me free from another forum member and it has proved to be worth that cost. I used it with my K10 to take photos of a few other lenses for review in this section.
I think the contrast and color the lens gives images is average. I am not a strict pixel peeper but the lens is sharp enough for me. Right now the image quality and unique varifocal aspects are what draw me back to the lens infrequently. I am not saying it will replace my FA 28-90 f3.5 but it is interesting and challenging at times.
