Pros: | Light, takes 4 AA batteries | Cons: | Makes camera imbalanced | | Used this when I had a ZX-L. Added some extra hight & grip to the body, increases how many rolls of film you can shoot & takes easy to find AA batteries.
Only nitpick is when set down it makes the camera a bit imbalanced, how bad depends on what lens you're using on your camera. A prime lens won't be that bad, it gets worse when a zoom is attached,

Pros: | Greater battery capacity for pop-up flash use, convenient. | Cons: | | | I use it mainly for extended pop-up flash use at night or fill flash because of the added battery capacity. Most people already have some kind of rechargeable AA's vs. CR2's which makes it that much more convenient. Other models carry six, or even eight, but the four this takes I think is ideal in terms of power vs. weight.

Pros: | Runs SLR on 4 AA batteries; Extends camera grip; Light weight; | Cons: | Sometimes tricky to insert; Doesn't balance well when sitting; No vertical shutter release button like newer digital grips; | | Pentax Battery Grip FG fits several of the later model (1990's) Pentax AF film SLR cameras. The Pentax Forums Camera Reviews for Pentax AF film SLRs can tell you if this battery grip fits your specific SLR. I own 3 of these grips and have used them on a ZX-L, ZX-7, ZX-30 & MZ-50.
PROS:
Replaces the 2 expensive CR2 lithium batteries with 4 AA batteries. Most of the time these grips fit in quickly and easily.
Extends camera's grip over an inch further for a more solid feel when holding of the camera. That extra little extension is really nice for holding the camera firmly when rotating 90 degrees for portrait framing.
The grip is very light so it doesn't add appreciable weight for the benefit of using AA batteries.
CONS:
Camera balance always leans forward onto the edge of a zoom lens when sitting, which may risk scratching the outer rim of lens/filter or paint/finish on lens hood.
Inserting grip into battery cavity can be a little touchy on some of these. One of mine requires two or three attempts to get the pins aligned just right for it to work properly. (I bought that one used and the previous owner may have bent the pins slightly???)
Note: I gave it only a 9 rating since the grip doesn't have a separate shutter release button for shooting vertical framing.
CONCLUSION: Highly recommended for AA battery benefit and extra grip when shooting with portrait framing.
When you need to make the camera as small and light as possible, just remove the grip.

Pros: | Uses AA, Adds heft | Cons: | Disrupts camera balance, battery door a tad flimsy | | I bought this for my ZX-5n I acquired in October. It does what it advertises, which is adding battery capacity and nothing else. 4 AA's over 2 CR2's is much more economical. I am rocking Duracell rechargeable batteries, which I think are not recommended (I have not seen any adverse effects...). The battery door feels strong, especially compared to the one on the camera itself. Mine came new in box for only $15. They can go down to about $10. The added heft gives some much needed feel to the plastic cameras that it mounts to. Well worth it for your MZ/ZX series camera, excluding the MZ-S.
The one downside is that your camera will now want to fall forward onto your lens even on a flat, level surface and even with a small manual lens.
Edit: Lowered to an eight due to the battery door feeling flimsy.
