Benro MA37AL Mach3 Aluminum Tripod

Description:
The Benro TMA37-AL Mach 3 is an aluminum tripod rated for a maximum load of 35 pounds. It is a tripod only; it does not include a head of any type. I bought mine locally for $179. Both B&H and Adorama show it for $185.

The TMA37-AL has 3-section legs with twist-grip locks with very good ridged, rubber grips. One leg has a foam gripThe spider is a magnesium casting that is very sturdy and very nicely finished. There are three leg position steps in the casting.

The tripod comes with two columns — the long column will allow you to add about a foot to the max height of tripod. If you don’t need to use a center column, use the short column, designed not to be raised. You can transfer the weight hook to the column you are using. The twist lock for the center column has wings to make it easy to tighten and loosen..

Here are the specs:
Max Height (column down) 59”
Max Height (column up) 70-1/2”
Minimum Height 16”
Folded Length 27”
Weight 5-1/4 lb.
Max Load 35-1/4 lb.

The Benro comes with a very nice padded carry bag with two zippered side pockets. The bag 32” x 5” x 5”, and the pockets are each 14” long. The bag is big enough to store some other stuff along with the tripod.

So what’s wrong with it? Well, the rubber feet have to be removed and replaced when you want to use the spiked feet. This is a sure guarantee that you will end up with at least one lost foot, be it rubber or steel.

Pros: Strong, rugged, good height
Cons: Not lightweight

I bought this as part of a new birding set-up. It will be used with a gimbal mount and a Bigma 150-500 lens.

This tripod is a brute. It has only 3 leg sections which means it is a bit long when folded, but also means the sections are all very sturdy. It is aluminum with a magnesium spider, so it weighs just a bit over 5 pounds.

Height-wise this thing is perfect. My camera is a eye level when on the gimbal and the center post is completely down. It comes with both long and short posts, and I use the short one.

It comes with a large, actually oversized, padded bag with both a handle and a shoulder strap. I can actually fit the tripod with the gimbal on it into the bag, but the width of the gimbal prevents me from zipping the final 6".

One bad thing is the separate rubber and spiked feet. Since the feet have to be changed, there are always three loose feet hanging around. I just know I am going to lose one or more of them.

I gave this a 9 (I wish there was a 9.5) because of the loose feet factor. Everything else is just what I wanted.
