FastStone Soft FastStone Image Viewer
supersize

Description:
FastStone Image Viewer is a fast, stable, user-friendly image browser, converter and editor. It has a nice array of features that include image viewing, management, comparison, red-eye removal, emailing, resizing, cropping, retouching and color adjustments. It is a freeware product (no adverts either!) and is designed for use on Windows. It has a full-screen viewer mode with quick and easy navigation between photographs - and easy access to image info and editing photos within the full-screen mode. It can also be programmed to run a musical slide show, should you want to.

It has a useful batch editing mode where you can carry out a comprehensive range of operations on a group of picture files - including resize, rename and convert. You can also program FastStone to open another editor from within the program (such as SIlkypix or The GIMP) which makes the program even more powerful.

Pros: Fast, powerful, flexible and free image viewer and manipulation program
Cons: Doesn't have a photo-tagging feature.

I've used FastStone Image Viewer for many years and have found it powerful very easy to use.

It runs under Windows (I'm currently using it in Windows 10 without problems) and I have run it under Wine on Linux too.

It reads and edits Pentax RAW and Adobe DNG files but only saves the edited file in an industry-standard format (JPG, BMP, PNG etc.)

It also allows you to edit the images with external editors (such as SilkyPix, GIMP, RawTherapee etc)

For me the only let-down in the program is the lack of a tagging database to accompany the photographs.
