Pros: | cheap, cheaper | Cons: | cheap, made in China, shimming obligatory, bad manufacture | | The manufacturers name is not important, all those made in China are pretty similar, just that some have the split image diagonal.
So yes, if it has to be cheap as cheap can be it does kind of work.
But all those cheap China-made split-image focusing-screens are really way way inferior to the Taiwan-made versions made by focusingscreen.com
The best still are Katz Eye Plus split prism with micro prism collar.

Pros: | works well | Cons: | when the tab has been cut off ! | | Ordered in desperation after six week wait for chinese screen from Ebay
Question to photodiox
>Is the handling tab on
the correct side for the K5 please ?
Answer from Fotodiox ( Very prompt )
Yes it is.
on the right facing you
Bought from amazon and arrived in a couple of days in UK from USA - not china post continental drift !
The only trouble is when the screen arrived when the mounting tab is placed in the slot the micro-prism and split image are on the wrong side
( facing down into the mirror box )
To be honest I was expecting this - sort of ( Having read the review on Amazon.com )
Out with the modelling knife and off with the tab !
( Holding the screen in the bag it came in ! )
Screen transported by plastic tweezers holding the outside edges ( not the flat faces ) . Dropped in and clamp clicked shut .
Testing:
Quality / Finish
Apart from the above design flaw the molding quality just fine . Even after 'surgery' the screen unmarked !
Brightness of the matte area just fine ( IMHO )
So what's it like with a lens or two ?
Tamron 18-200 f3.5-6.3
18mm ( f3.5 ) - Split screen works well - eye position not critical
- Micro-prism works well
- Ground glass performs far better than standard screen ( Can see if in focus and depth of field )
200mm ( f6.3 ) - Split screen works - eye position not too tricky one half sometimes noticably darker but vertical spit clear
- Micro-prism Useless
- Ground glass performs far better than standard screen ( Can see if in focus and depth of field )
Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro - Split screen works well - eye position not critical
- Micro-prism works well
- Ground glass performs far better than standard screen ( Can see if in focus and depth of field )
Sigma 500mm f7.2 - Split screen just works - eye position very critical but still infinitely better than the standard screen !
- Micro-prism Useless
- Ground glass performs far better than standard screen ( Can see if in focus and depth of field )
Apart from the ( rectifiable ) design flaw it works well .
Looks like it will do what I bought it for !
In all cases focus seems very accurate in the resulting pictures
It's 8 for performance - most of the time I think It would actually be better without the micro-prism collar !
But not recommended as surgery required !
If you are happy with a craft knife give it a try
