Pros: | Distinguished by very smooth operation, and high quality. | Cons: | Not the cheapest around! | | This semi-pro head I bought recently as a replecement of my old video head (some 40 years old - very well used, have been put to good use with video cameras, (D)SLRs and monoculars!). The old one was OK, but not high-tech like this one!
It has an accurate libelle, so it is fairly easy to set up perfectly horizontally, but its most endearing feature is that is super-smooth in every direction! Naturally, it comes with locks for pan, and tilt, but both can usually be left 'open', as the built-in friction is just spot on!
It uses the same type of quick release plates as the 501/503 ball heads, and comes complete with a plate, of course!
The handle can be attached either side, and the angle of the handle can be adjusted almost infinitely.
It simply is the best video head I have come across, as yet, anyway!

Addendum:
As years go by, things change.
I've added a Sirui leveling head to the set-up, making life much easier.
Do not use this type of head so much anymore, as I too have changed to ARCA-Swiss style plates, but for video, I find it excellent.
