This is the most powerful and sturdiest flash I own. The metal shoe and sturdy battery door are welcome, as is the overall feel of the construction. The power is there, and the secondary flash is very helpful when bouncing.


It has all the features of the Pentax dedicated units, plus some. It works flawlessly was a controller or slave for wireless P-TTL.


One really useful feature omitted from some other recent Pentax models is the combination of a thyristor auto mode and a flash slave mode (remote) which can be set to ignore preflashes. This allows automatic flash off camera, which can be triggered by several different brands of camera at the same shoot. This is a really great feature if you or someone else in your family has a mirrorless camera which you would like to use at the same time.


The power is there to bounce off high ceilings and/or at some distance. The one issue which keeps me from giving this product a "10" is that it seems to be too careful of its own temperature. The flash has an aggressive overheat protection feature. With too many rapid flashes, a big yellow symbol appears on the touch screen, and the flash stops working. Replacing the batteries seems to help, and they come out quite warm when the flash is put in overheat mode. Always carry some extra Eneloops or use an external source, and the problem is ameliorated. I have read the flash can be pushed to the point where this does not help.
