Description:
This close up tube is continuously variable between its minimum and maximum extension. At its shortest length, it is like the #2 auto tube. When fully extended, it is like the #3 auto tube. It can be used in conjunction with the other inner bay tubes. The Helicoid is usefull in preventing the changing of tubes in the middle of a shot like is so common when using the 3 piece auto tube set.

Pros: Well built and easy to use.
Cons: You have to use stopped down metering with the TTL/AE prisms.

This helicoid extension tube gives you variable extension between 32.2mm and 52mm.

It can be used separately or in combination with the 6x7 Auto Extension tubes. The Helicoid tube is also recommended when using one of the 6x7 reverse adapters. (49mm or 67mm)

This tube can be also used to make fine focusing adjustments. It’s a must for any 6x7 macro work.

This extension tube is very well built and easy to use and comes with a leather case.

The Helicoid tube will let you focus with the lens DOF lever in the “AUTO” position. However please note the following if using a 6x7/67/67II camera and a TTL/AE metered prism:

YOU MUST SET THE LENS DOF PREVIEW LEVER TO “MAN” TO GET A METER READING. THE 6X7/67 TTL OR 67II AE METERS WILL NOT GIVE A READING IF THE DOF LEVER IS IN “AUTO”. IF YOU ARE USING APERTURE PRIORITY ON THE 67II/AE YOU MUST LEAVE THE LEVER IN THE “MAN” POSITION WHEN YOU PRESS THE SHUTTER. THE AE METER WILL DEFAULT TO CENTRE-WEIGHTED METERING WHEN USING AN EXTENSION TUBE.

Price: The price I paid is for a LN Helicoid tube and a Pentax SMC 6x7 67mm UV filter. Both came with original box, instructions and case.

Pros: Well built, time saver in mcro work
Cons: Helical mechanism gets sluggish with heay lenses

See item description for added info. If you shoot tons of macro, there is nothing worse than having to move your tripod or stack another tube on your camera once you have framed your subject. The Helicoid prevents much of this action and so is a benefit to the macro shooter. The Helicoid acts like a macro focusing device. I like it better than using the single tubes. When used with the #2 tube, it gives a magnification of .93X with the 135 macro lens. With the 90-180 zoom at 90mm it gives lifesize magnification (Helicoid + #2). The 90 and 105 Pentax also produce lifesize magnification with the Helicoid + #2 tube. It is a great macro tool. Its only negative is that it becomes sluggish to extend when used with the heavier lenses. When using the P67 for macro work at high magnification, I suggest using lenses with small stops (135 Macro, 100 Macro, 200 Pentax, 165 LS, 90-180 zoom). This is done for DOF reasons.
