Just to claify, it has a spring loaded thumb screw that prevents accidental releasing if it unscrews for whatever reason. It is well thought through and secure. This grip only comes off if you want to. The last review might hint at the contrary.
Like the previous reviewer, I also wish it had a PC socket and hot shoe contacts, but I get by with the excellent Pentax hot shoe adapter LS, or an unbranded PC socket adapter with 1/4" screw threads at the bottom instead of pass through contacts, which would create a short with the all metal cold shoe of the grip (and I'm also not really fond of using electrical tape or something similar which can be torn or pushed away by the flash foot or contacts).

This grip, which is for the left hand, is an excellent accessory. The dealer who sold me the camera said it was virtually essential; I thought it was a sales pitch but he was right. The 6x7 is a very heavy beast and my left hand is holding the grip all the time; for focussing I use my right and then move it to press the shutter button, so for the actual shot I am gripping the camera body firmly with both hands - a different practice perhaps from 35mm.
The grip also makes a good carrying handle; even if you also have a neck strap, when walking around (I've done 6 miles of beach) it is a relief to alternate between neck strap and grip to avoid neck-ache or arm ache respectively. It is solidly made and the polished wood has a lovely retro-look. The knurled nut does have a tendency to loosen itself though - needs watching.
My only complaint is that the accessory shoe is plain metal. They might at least have put in a basic PC flash connection. I do put an unbranded hot shoe adaptor in it (and my flash unit into that) which has a lead to the camera X socket, but that adaptor also has spring contacts on its underside which would be shorted out by the metal of the grip's shoe. I therefore push a thin square of plastic in first to insulate it.

I really love this handle. But sometime, I wonder about the uses of this handle.
1. This handle located in left side. If you are going to use this for carrying, it should be fine. But idk why the handle is located in left side which is so useless?
2. Hard to use the lens. It makes me feel awkward while I'm focusing and shooting pics. It's REALLY useless for shooting pics. It helps for steady image but controlling any functions will be harsh. Such as when you are shooting in vertically, the handle will be useless.
3. Too expansive. It costs more than $100 for one handle.

This regular wooden grip can be used on any 6x7 body and provides an accessory (cold) shoe to mount a flash or light meter. Unlike the 67II hotshoe grip you will need a flash sync cable to connect the flash to the camera body’s x-sync terminal in order to fire the flash. Note this grip will not provide TTL Auto flash support on the 67II.
This old wooden grip adds extra character to the older Pentax 6x7 & 67 bodies and provides a good handle to stabilize these large cameras. This grip also has two lugs to attach a camera strap.
Price: I have two 6x7 grips, one is EX+ and cost $56.00, the other was new old stock and cost $178.00. The price indicated is an average of the two.
