Pros: Well made, provides needed extra battery life
Cons: Makes a small camera big!

This is, like all Pentax grips I have owned, excellently made and feels like quality as soon as you pop it on the KP. As others have suggested it adds much need battery life to the KP, which is the biggest issue with the camera for me. I think that if you are going out shooting all day, this adds so much value. It improves the hand held comfort of the camera, and you get a ton of shots without needing to swap out the battery. Also useful is the sd card slot holder. The KP only has one slot in it, so it always means I have a backup should I forget to process old files, or even worse, forget to put the card back in the camera (lost track how often I have done this - he says, eyeing the sd card in the reader with sd card attached again, doh!).

If you can pick one up get one!

I stupidly sold my KP and grip when I got my K1ii, thinking I would not use it anymore. Big mistake, as I have got into bird photography and the extra MP and reach and responsiveness of the KP would be useful. So have just re-bought one, and am now on the hunt for a grip again!

Pros: Build quality, control locations, improved camera handling
Cons: none

Do I need this? The battle raged for few months but I won over myself. Although the need for additional battery life will be a convenience, I am particularly pleased with the handling of the KP with grip. It is, for me, a noticeable improvement over the camera alone.

Pros: Well designed, superbly constructed - a step above the D-BF4
Cons: None

In 2015 I reviewed the D-BG4 which complements my K-5II perfectly. Having purchased a KP in 2019 - I found the smaller battery performed poorly in cold weather and where I live there are 6 months of winter every year. Carrying two extra batteries inside my coat and swapping them wasn't quite working.

A few weeks ago I saw a sale on the D-BG7 and pulled the trigger, having a spare D-LI90 from my K-5II as well as two extra D-LI109's for my KP made this a no brainer. I had 3 batteries that could be utilized with the grip however in the cold the D-LI90 will be my go-to. I won't gripe about AA's as the OEM D-LI109's are cheap to start with.

The grip arrived today. It seems to be a well evolved and improved grip compared to the D-BG4 (which is excellent). Form, fit, finish and layout are all superb.

Best grip yet!!!

Pros: Improves handling, DLi-90 battery, Vertical release
Cons: Price

I have large, but not huge hands. The Pentax KP, even with its largest handgrip, is just too small for comfortable shooting, especially verticals with larger lenses. The other issue with the KP in stock form is battery life. The small DLi-190 battery isn’t up to the task, especially if Live View is being used. The dbg-7 battery grip solves all the aforementioned and more.

Adding the dbg-7 makes a marked difference in the handling and balance of the KP. Lenses such as the DA* 60-250 and DA*300 balance much better. The vertical shutter release and control wheels are so much more convenient than the awkward position holding vertically without the grip. The biggest advantage of the grip for me? The DLi-90 battery tray. With the larger battery from my K5/K3 cameras, the KP now has excellent battery life. I rarely need to replace the DLi-190 in the camera, I just keep using the grip battery. Even inexpensive third party DLi-90 batteries offer far more shooting life than a Pentax original DLi-190.

The only drawbacks to the dbg-7 grip are cost new and the extra height added to the camera. A KP/dbg-7 combination is actually taller than the K3/dbg-5 combination.

Pros: Small details - nice fit
Cons: Rather high priced grip.

For more grip on the KP, especially in Portrait-position, this is grip a must have. For long day use, the KP hasn't got much flesh to hold on to. So the plus of being a compact body, can turn into a minus when holding the camera for a longer time. This grip becomes your best friend in circumstances like these.

For what a grip should do, holding an extra battery and memorycard, it suits its purpose just fine. A neat extra though is the spare space for both the camera- and grip connector caps. This lacked on the D-BG5 for my previously owned K20, where only the rubber cap fitted in the grip, when the grip was mounted underneath the body.

Around the end of 2019, the availability of the grip became an issue. Even in the Pentax webshop the item was sold out. Therefor the online prices raise, and ordering it from overseas wasn't really an alternative either, as shippingcosts were added.

So is it a usefull addition to the KP body? Yes it is indeed.
Is it worth the price I paid for it? Only time will tell what it will do, when I need a follow up on the KP. But since I just bought the KP and found the grip, that will take some time.

Pros: Handling, controls, extra battery capacity
Cons: Price

I got the D-BG7 battery grip for my Pentax KP because there’s times when I need extra battery capacity, the camera handles much better for vertical shots, and I like the handling with larger lenses. Certainly I can simply put extra batteries and SD cards in my pocket, but it’s nice to have them on board when I want to take advantage of the grip’s handling dynamics.

The grip can use the D-LI109 or the larger capacity D-LI90, a tray is utilized to hold the smaller battery in the battery compartment. The battery compartment has a storage place for an SD card, the smaller battery tray also has a storage place for another card. So if you use the large battery, one extra card can be carried and two if the smaller battery is used.

The camera has a protective cover for the grip electrical connections as does the grip, there is a secure stowage compartment located between the camera and grip which eliminates losing these items.

The grip and camera handles great with the duplicated controls located perfectly on the grip. My only complaint is the price seems high but I’ll get over that the longer I use it. Highly recommended!

Pros: Either battery type Usable, Controls available in vertical shooting mode, Increased stability with large lenses.
Cons: Finding a good L bracket difficult, Price

Water resistant, battery life is no longer a concern when using the larger battery even when shooting outdoors at -10C or lower.
Additional large grip included if your KP kit did not include all three sizes. Easier to hold for my very large hands, especially when hand holding my KP with a large and heavy lens mounted. (4 pounds.)

Nice to have the secondary controls on the grip when shooting in portrait mode. Works very well. The best thing is the large increase in battery capacity with either battery used. If I am not using a Limited lens, I have it mounted at all times.
I had a coupon that saved my a few dollars off of the retail price, but would be willing to pay the 229.00 MSRP.
