Pros: The only charger one should use for the D-LI109
Cons: None

This is the only charger one should use for the Pentax D-LI109 Li-Ion battery.
It has the 3rd T-contact for the temperature sensor inside the original D-LI109.

Clone-chargers have only 2 contacts and are quickchargers.

Of course quickchargers do their job with double speed but the price is high:
Any Li-Ion if quick-charged will get warmer and the cells inside age much quicker.

The clone-batteries don't have a temperature-sensor. The original Pentax D-BC 109 would not charge them normally but manufacturers use a (dangerous) trick so the clone is recognised by the charger as if it would have
a temperature-sensor, but it is just a 10kohms resistor (1/10th of a penny for the manufacturer) and thus there is no temperature control! Can be dangerous, I had clone batteries which got thicker due to warming up.
They can explode, but as bad is the stress when removing the battery, it often has to be forced out and can break the battery-hook, which is quite sensitive anyway in the K30, K50/500, K-S2 and K70!

But it comes worse: The clone-charging-control is much simpler, when one of the 2 internal cells is full, the clone charger will "shut off".

So to all those complaining that this orig. charger takes its time: This is good so and intended.

There are what I call stray-reviews from users without any further understanding who feel put of by the price and then rate something low or "not to be recommended".

Hitherto for real D-LI109's there exists no alternative for this charger expect if one loves to risk ones Pentax and maybe even one's house because exploding Li-Ions are no fun!

Price: Usually the charger comes with the DSLR anyway so there is nothing to complain about.

So sometimes it is better to put up or shut up or start to do a bit of a research.

Pros: Reliable, Well Built
Cons: None

This item is very well-built and has lasted me over 6 years. I have never had issues and i like the way the light will switch off when the battery is charged. I have used this for both original batteries and non-original batteries.

Pros: Very light, reasonably quick, stays cool.
Cons: Massively overpriced if purchased separately from a camera kit.

There's not much to say about a battery charger, it either does the job or it doesn't. This one does the job, and is very light indeed, a nice feature that surprised me when I first unpacked my Pentax K-r. In spite of that low weight it doesn't feel fragile, and has lasted well in spite of trips packed in my camera bag with various other bits of kit. It stays cool too, which in a battery charger usually indicates both good power efficiency and that it isn't charging batteries too fast. Keeping a good balance between charging speed and prolonging the life of the battery is good news, and this charger does that.

It is massively over priced though, if you buy it as a separate item. I bought a battery charger for AA/AAA sizes with lots of features and an LCD display for a much lower price. I can run my K-r on AA batteries and I get a longer battery life. So if yours dies rather than buy this, I'd say buy an AA battery adapter and a better charger and change to using good AA rechargeables. You'll save money as well as getting more pictures between reloads. In the UK at the time of writing it's £44.99 list price, that's more than $70 US at today's rates. Half that would be more reasonable.
