Description:
AC adapter for the Pentax K-70. It comes with a region specific power cable. This can be indicated by a suffix to the part number such as in K-AC168E for Europe.

K-AC168 consists of three parts: A DC coupler, that takes the place of the battery, a power brick, and the region specific power cable.

Pros: Extends shooting time, Conserves batteries, Long term continuous shooting, World Wide Use 100-240V 50/60Hz AC
Cons: Cost, Potential voltage surges without surge protector.

I ordered a brand new & genuine Pentax K-AC168 Ac adapter for my Pentax K-70 via eBay on Dec 20th
The seller from eBay was "japan_atmarket" claiming it was genuine and original.
Today, Jan 6th, the item arrived and to my surprise the description was 100% correct.
I had thought the item discontinued - so maybe they are once again in production in Japan, I don't know for sure.

The item came in a brand new authentic Pentax box, with instructions in multiple languages.
Pulling out the small rubber plug next to the battery door and inserting the DC Coupler is the same as a normal battery except the cable hangs out (once guided through the gap and closing the battery door) to attach the small almost mini USB type connection (only a little smaller) to the AC adapter power brick's cable and plug.

Once connected to the camera, the cable length from K-70 to the AC adapter power brick is 127cms (4'2") allowing me to hang the power brick from the bottom center weight hook of my tripod (where a weight or backpack etc can be hooked on) with a little extra length in case I use a 90 degree tilt arm accessory on my tripod.
I tested this with my Tripod (Promaster XC528) fully extended to its maximum height which extends to 161cms or 63.375 in and had about 30cms or 12 inches spare cable length.

The only thing I recommend is using a power board with surge protection. A safety switch on the board I would also recommend. It doesn't say the K-AC168 has surge protection so i would want to be sure not to kill my camera.

The DC coupler is labelled "D-DC128" and the AC adapter power brick is labelled "D-AC168"
AC Adapter Input of 100-240V~50-60Hz 0.48A
AC Adapter output of 8.3V⎓2.16A (surprisingly not 7.4V like the batteries)

Pros:
Cons:

I was interested in this adapter for my K-70 as the $19 price for it was farbetter than the $99 price I saw for my K-3 adapter.

But, when I went to the link at E Bay, they listed the compatible cameras as being:

  • Pentax K-30 Digital Camera
  • Pentax K-50 Digital Camera
  • Pentax K-500 Digital Camera
However they do note that it works on the 109 series which I assume means the DLi109 Batteries the K-70 takes. My caution is that I found out the K-70 does not use the same cable release cord size as virtually all other DSLRs by Pentax. I do not want to buy this and find out the port on the K-70 takes a different size plug.
