Pros: powers the camera for studiowork
Cons: cable too short for tripod

I purchased a copy which is as good as the original, both have to short cables for tripods, which is crazy.

But the good thing is: many where sad because the original Hirose MQ172-3SA-CV(50) was not
available anymore to do a DIY powersupply, there is a simple solution:

Buy the

Hirose MQ172-3SA-CV(30)

it is exactly the same one!

the shematics you find here:
http://www.m2uu.com/elektronika:powersupplyk20d

works for:

K10D, K20D, K7, K5, K3, K1 and most likely the KP (as it has a DC IN).

Not for K30/50/500, K-01, K-S1, K-S2, K70

Pros: OEM quality
Cons: Not CE certified.

Works fine on my K-1.

As far as I'm aware, the D-AC50 was discontinued as it was not CE certified (Lead in the Solder, I believe.) As far as I can tell, it is functionally the same as newer CE certified K-AC132.

Not much else to say other than you may want to replace the AC end of the cord with a longer one.

Pros: Studio work
Cons: cost

Snagged one by sniping on eBay for £30, but the price quoted new is absurd (£125 new). Very useful of you shoot in the studio and don't want to keep on charging batteries.

Pros: Very useful for studio works. Doesn't need any battery in camera.
Cons: Cable from adapter to camera too short for higher tripod position. Body of adapter hangs over and adapter must be attached with something in the middle of tripod. I will rate 9 only because of that.

D-AC50 - I bought it new and mostly used with K20d camera for studio works because didn't want to depend on battery life. Never had any problems with adapter. Only negative side is too short cable from adapter to camera when camera is on tripod in higher position. In this case adapter must be attached with something for tripod.
Meanwhile i sold K20d and bought K-5. Voltages and connectors are the same (K20d and K-5) and adaper can be used on both cameras (today i used D-AC50 on K-5).

Pros: Only external power source for high-end Pentax DSLR and 645D
Cons: Very hard to find and very expensive

Pentax K-AC50 comes with adapter D-AC50 and power cord. It is proprietary connector, so RadioShack cannot supply generic copy. The adapter is well-made and very light weight. Worldwide compatibility 110/240V. Made in Japan.
