Paired up with the AF400T this unit allows super-rapid recharging when using the 510 volt battery. It also allows the use of a SunPak 'Rechargeable 510' -- with the down-side of slightly fewer flashes before the Sunpak is drained.
The 510 volt will last several sessions, but is getting harder to find -- and it is expensive.
(It is also a great 'conversation starter' -- allowing you to extol the virtues of Pentax. )
The PowerPack 510 is much less expensive than the Quantum packs on the used market. They both do admirable jobs. So you have a great choice. I recommend it. And I have been using flash for over 50 years.
