Pros: | small, simple | Cons: | FN doesn't work on all models | | Fn button doesn't work on all models of Pentax cameras. This ought to be stated somewhere in the directions of the remote and the camera.

Pros: | Simple, rugged, water proof | Cons: | Price | | The Pentax O-RC1 remote controller is a simple and effective device on the K-3. It is rugged, waterproof and small.
The setup is very simple. I recommend highly (except for the price).
Addendum: I wrote and shared some simple instructions on how to use the O-RC1 with a K-3 at https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/58-troubleshooting-beginner-help/433300-...ml#post5431440.

Pros: | Works | Cons: | Sometimes I forget to bring it. | | So it cost more than a third party remote and I haven’t really used the focus function but it works well and after a good couple of years the battery is still going so I’m perfectly happy.

Pros: | WR. | Cons: | Expensive, replacing battery requires special equipment. | | I've used it from inside the pool to trigger the camera set on a tripod previously, or at the river. If you like being near water, or shoot under the rain, get one. Otherwise just get a regular one, or third party, whatever works. Mine works with my K-5, the MZ-S with grip, ZX-L and i would suspect others. I've changed the battery on my first one, but unfortunately started having trouble with it, so I got a second one. It lasted for about three years of intermittent use before the battery died. So about ten bucks a year.

Pros: | waterproof? | Cons: | non replaceable battery | | My friend who I swap pentax stuff back and forth with had one of these. It seemed dead so I went to swap out the battery only to find the device is difficult to take apart and the battery is soldered in. LAME. I am not sure who came up with this scheme, but I find it annoying. My 5$ ir remote control still works.

Pros: | None | Cons: | Ultra short Battery Life | | Don't waste your time or money on it, even if it works like a charm, once the battery is dead, you are out of luck.
If a device has a battery there should be a way to replace the battery, remove the battery for testing, or have a built-in test circuit with a light that comes on to show it is working. This device has none of those things, so it wasn't until after I received it unpacked it, and tried to get my K-5 to recognize it, and did all the troubleshooting, could I determine that the battery was in fact, dead. My only option was to return it, after wasting several hours, and the vendor had no more replacements.

Pros: | Works, waterproof | Cons: | Non-replaceable battery | | Don't buy it. The lack of a replaceable battery is a poor design choice. After reading the reviews I took it apart, it is indeed a throw away. Mine came with the camera, so didn't really pay for it. When replacement time comes, I will get a knock off cheap one.
Just bought a cheap one on ebay for $1.58, it works and has a replaceable battery. Took 2 tries to get one that works and it is not waterproof, but hey for that price I can buy a bunch of them. For what it is worth, here is the one I bought: http://www.ebay.com/itm/280866567382?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Pros: | Waterproof | Cons: | Non replacable battery, short battery life | | The only posititive aspects of this remote are the waterproofing and that while the battery had charge it worked flawlessly with all of my IR capable pentax cameras old and new.
That's the end of the good news though. As I found out this remote has a short battery life unlike my other remotes which have gone for years with-out a battery change. It also
seems to makes no difference how much use it gets as it will go flat as quickly sitting on the shelf or used frequently. (not something that you would want to buy as old stock)
Then it gets worse, the battery can't be replaced. This is the only piece of Pentax gear that I have been completely dissapointed in.

Pros: | Waterproof | Cons: | Battery is not replaceable | | A waterproof remote is really great to have! Unfortunately when I wanted to use it for the waterproof capability, the battery had died.
The battery is not a replaceable item. Once it is dead, throw the remote away! I took it in to the local Pentax agents who say that it is on the list of replace, not repair items.
If I need waterproof I will put a Remote F into a plastic bag and use it that way.

Pros: | Excellent unit | Cons: | What the other buttons are for I do not know | | I have always wanted a camera with mirror lock-up, particularly for macro work. Now that I have a digital camera this remote is the cat's meow. Press the red button once and the mirror locks up, press it again and the shutter releases. Absolutely no shake!

Pros: | small size, works as advertised | Cons: | instructions are pitiful | | I just picked this up on a trip to Japan, so the price is approximate. Overall, it works as anticipated and I was able to use it to take some pics with my kids in a more natural setting than setting the timer. It also apparently has the ability to allow for autofocus. My only gripes are that the instructions that came with it are pitiful, and provide no explanation whatsoever. All it says about the other two buttons are that they only work in certain shooting modes, but no explanation about what they actually do. It does not even mention anything about having to put the camera in "remote" shooting mode. Luckily, a quick Google search on my cell phone was able to clue me in to that (as I had already started contemplating having to return it). My other gripe is at least they could include a lanyard to attach it to. For what would cost them less than 10 cents, it would be very useful. But overall, I am very happy with it and can easily recommend it.

Pros: | WR, decent range, lanyard attachment possible | Cons: | Non exchangable battery ... ?! | | Bonjour,
Picked up this accessory for tripod work and for family portraits ... easier than running back and forth to the K-5, etc. I was surprised and disappointed to find out that the battery could not be replaced (?!) ... very weird IMHO. Knocking off a point or two for this "unpleasant" surprise ... Salut, John le Frog - - - - - - - - - - - Edit of 28 August 2014 : This remote no longer works and I am assuming that the battery is dead. I have an F remote that still works and will trigger the K-5 ...
I dissembled this WR remote and the battery in not replaceable. It's soldered to the circuit board.
I now rate this WR remote as a "1".
Unacceptable that it's not functioning after such a short period of time and not repairable.

Pros: | Waterproof, extended range, able to use lanyard | Cons: | Large | | I purchased a remote because I wanted to be able to get into the picture with my family. I know I could set the timer and run to the front but it is so much easier with a remote. When I saw this remote online at Adorama I thought “wow” that looks interesting. I have the F series remote but after I looked into the spec I decided to purchase this remote as well. I wanted a waterproof remote, because I was worried about getting the F series remote wet or forgetting to take it out of my clothes and it getting into the wash. The F series remote is very small and compact. This remote is larger than the F series (about twice as big) it is 1.25 by 2.25 and it is thicker. I showed it to a friend and told them it was waterproof but they were skeptical, so I tested the remote by placing it under running water. The remote worked fine, but it cannot be used underwater. It is designed for the occasions when you are caught in a downpour or unexpected shower. I’m not sure it will hold up if you forget it in your clothes and it runs through the washing machine, I’ll let someone else try that. One of the added bonuses is that it has about twice the range as the F series. This remote can be used in front of or behind the K-7. This remote has a place to attach a lanyard which should help me from misplacing as I have my other remote. The remote has two additional buttons zoom/wide angle and a FN. The zoom/wide angle button allows you to zoom in (or out) on point and shoot Pentax digital cameras. The zoom feature does not work on my K-7 unfortunately. I’m sure the FN button does something on the newer point and shoot cameras, but on my wife’s Pentax Optio it doesn’t do anything. Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase and would recommend this remote.
