PENTAX Reverse Adapter K
supersize

Description:
Regardless of the lens being used, whenever working with magnification greater than life size, better results can be achieved by reversing the lens.

This K-mount adaptor is available in two sizes: 49mm and 52mm.

One side of the appropriate adaptor screws into the front threads of the lens, and the opposite side bayonets into the K-mount of an extension tube or bellows.

Pros: Build quality.
Cons:

I actually own two 52mm ones, because the second came with a bundle of items. I got the first one dirt cheap from Japan including an original Asahi 49/52mm step-up ring. They match optically and as the previous reviewer stated, it's a jewel. Sturdy and machined to the highest standards.

Pros: Stainless Steel, Lens-type Black Baffles, well machined
Cons:

I tend to scoff at those who do reviews with minimal field testing, but I'm doing it!

Just opened the package from another forum member (thanks denik) and this is a small accessory JEWEL. Compared to the generic reverse adapter in my kit...well, no comparison. The Pentax branded item is smoothly machined from stainless steel heavier than the mount on a quality lens. Knurled edge is nicely machined. It has an additional piece for the interior--ridged black baffle like you'd find inside a lens to minimize stray light. The mount itself has the little pin hole drilled out like a lens mount, has an aperture slot with what appears to be a brass pin. Absolutely amazing the quality and detail, especially as compared to a rough piece of soft aluminum with chipping black paint that formerly served as my "never use it" reverse adapter.

Already fit this item to a rare Slide Holder K 1X and yep, I need to buy a new lens to get the perfect focusing distance! That's one heck of a reverse adapter that is so good it added a lens to my kit! (trying the A50/2.8 macro first with over 9" minimum focus so will require short ext. tube; DFA 35 Macro Ltd if necessary for the shorter minimum focus distance, 5.5". Using the Slide Holder with macro not reversed but reverse adapter required to fit it on the front of a lens). So that could mean this adapter adds two lenses to my kit...And what if I still have to try a DFA 50 Macro with 7.5" min. focus? Potentially 3 new/used lenses from one $10 reverse adapter. Best piece of gear I've ever purchased!

Pros: Quality construction, great macro alternative
Cons: Need for extra care with rear lens element

My adapter is the 49 mm version, which works for the Takumar and M 28mm and 50mm lenses I have.

The Pentax Reverse Adapter provides a cheap and effective option for macro photography. While reversing a lens is more complicated than adding extension tubes, it provides greater than 1:1 magnification.

The photographer should take considerable care to ensure that the rear element of the lens (once reversed it becomes the front element) is protected from damage.

Here is a shot of tulip stamens taken with a reversed Takumar 50mm 1.4 lens.

Pros: Well built metal design.
Cons: Limited usage.

The Pentax reverse adapter is a must for Macro work over 1:1 magnification.
It comes in two sizes 49mm for M & A series lenses and 52mm for K series.

The reverse adapter can be mounted directly to the camera body, extension tubes or a bellows unit. The lens is screwed into the outside edge of the adapter like a filter.

Lenses with a focal length between 28mm and 55mm, work best reversed. Due to the optical design of telephoto lenses, there is no point in reversing them as you will not gain magnification. A 28mm lens reversed will give you the highest magnification. All reversed lenses will require stop-down metering.

The reverse adapter is metal so it will last for decades and there is nothing that can break on it. The reverse adapter is a great product, but one that you will probably not use that often.

The price is for a 52mm version in its origial box with instructions.
