Pros: | Price, Study, Quick Release Plate, Adjustable to Good Height | Cons: | A bit heavy, Gets Very Cold In Fall And Wniter Conditions | | This tripod delivers exactly what one would want and more at it's price point. I bought mine many years ago (91 or 92) for 89.00 with a pan tilt head. I still own this tripod in 2019 and use it daily. It works just as good now as it did the day I bought it. This tripod is extremely sturdy and can hold up to 11 pounds, it's maximum height will reach 61 inches while it's lower end will take you down to 18.5 inches.
If your using a big rig then this tripod would not fit the bill. I can attach my Pentax KP with various lenses and have zero issues, if I were to go bigger I would upgrade my tripod. For what this tripod is, you will get your moneys worth, It will last you a life time.
My only cons are it's weight, but that weight also works in your favor, so it's really not a con at all. The legs do get cold in the fall and winter if you have it in the field and this can get painful on your hands. Other than that it's a great tripod and very affordable.

Pros: | reasuringly solid all metal construction, decent p&t head, legs spread locking in 3 positions, good value | Cons: | on the weighty side compared to CF equivalents, no foot spikes, no hook for a weight | | Only recently acquired. Now that I have it I agree with the reviews posted online eg http://www.photographyreview.com/cat/tripods/tripods/slik/able-300-dx/prd_83831_3114crx.aspx
A worthwhile and workmanlike tripod. But I have to say that in comparison to my old Daiwa Hi-ace, the workmanship shows the cost cutting of this economy level tripod. The legs on the Diawa telescope with a hiss as the air is
pushed out and are more rigid. The legs on this flex more at the joints, and rattle when the locking screws are loosened.
Price quoted is second hand. Value comments reflect new price: £70-80 odd UK (amazon).
Update: I have now used this a fair amount, primarily for macro/close up shots. I think overall it does provide a slightly more solid platform than my Daiwa, once everything has been locked up. However it loses out on portability and since I have them both, it is the Daiwa, more compact and 2/3 the weight, that I pick up every time to take out and about.
The 330DX is similar, foam padded legs with cam locks, bit pricier. The 340DX is lighter, 4 section legs, more portable.
