Pros: lightweight
Cons: N/A

I've had a Manfrotto MK393-HM for a while now and for a on the go tripod I find it a little more than annoying. I recently picked-up a Slik Pro 340BH Tripod and I'm pretty pleased.

It's a little shorter, a little more stable and now that I can remove part of the center column,(which I don't use anyway) it can be set up a lot lower. It has bubble levers, so at this size what else could you ask for?

If you need something more stable, get a bigger tripod. When I need a beast, I have a Bogen 3021 which has basically been a decoration the last year and a half.

Pros: Well-made, reasonably priced
Cons: Average stability, 57" max height

This is really a pretty good tripod/head combo for the price. It's lightweight at about 3.25 lbs. and reasonably stiff, though simple physics will limit the stiffness somewhat. After all, when you combine that light weight with the fact that this a 4-section tripod, meaning you've got a pretty small diameter bottom leg section, you can't expect miracles. Still, it's pretty good for an on-the-go tripod/head and the benefit of the 4-section construction is a folded length of only about 20 inches, including the head. Max height is 57 inches, which may be a problem for taller users. It is rated for about 9 lbs. of support, and uses lever locks. The center column has an 8-inch removable section, which allows a minimum set-up height of 10 inches.

The included ball head (model SBH-200DQ) is about what you'd expect at this price point. Fairly small and basic, but seems well-made and I doubt if it would wear out on you.

The unit comes with foam grips on the legs, which makes for much more comfortable carrying and handling, especially in cold or wet weather.

I've had a number of Slik products and really haven't had any problems from any of them.
