Hands-on with the Pentax Q10 Evangelion

Special anime edition

By PF Staff in CP+ 2013 on Feb 2, 2013

We've managed to learn a bit more about the about the Pentax Q10 evangelion edition (announced earlier this week) at CP+, so we thought we'd make a quick video about it!

Even though the camera will only be available in Japan, the good news is that 1500 examples of each color will be made, and thus we'll see a total of 4,500 of these Q10's.

Tokina Confirms Pentax Full-frame Under Development

Pentax considering sourcing FF lenses from Tokina

By Angela Erika Kubo in CP+ 2013 on Feb 1, 2013

A Tokina employee revealed to us today at CP+ that Tokina has renewed their discussions with Pentax about reviving their lens collaboration as of late last year.

According to the employee, Pentax is reportedly developing a full-frame camera (he claims that a prototype already exists). He stated that all lenses developed will be re-branded under the Pentax name as it had been done in the past.

Talks had previously stalled after the Ricoh takeover in 2011, but Pentax has requested that Tokina still show new lens designs for possible collaboration. However, no Tokina prototype lenses have been made for the Pentax full-frame yet, and no deals have been finalized.

Tokina is an independent lens manufacturer who has co-designed lenses with Pentax; those lenses have been branded under the Tokina and Pentax names. Though Tokina no longer markets many of these lenses, most of these co-designs are still sold under the Pentax name.

By PF Staff in CP+ 2013 on Jan 30, 2013

Pentax Japan announced yesterday that they would be making a limited edition Q10 based on the "Neon Genesis Evangelion" Japanese media franchise.  We gather that this Q10 will be featured in an upcoming Evangelion movie.

The camera itself is quite colorful (it comes in three different color schemes) and includes a "NERV" logo on the top.  The a startup screen containing this logo has also been added.

1,500 examples of each version of this camera will be produced, and it will only be available in Japan.  It will be on exhibit at the upcoming CP+ photo show.  Read on for some larger photos!

CP+ Reference Products Unveiled

Pentax AF-360 FGZ II Flash and Q Body Cap Lens

By PF Staff in CP+ 2013 on Jan 29, 2013

Pentax has announced that they will be exhibiting the new AF-360 FGZ II flash and the new Pentax Q Mount Cap Lens as reference products at the CP+ show.

The AF 360 II flash was originally showcased at CES just a few weeks ago, and it features both tilt and swivel capabilities (the original AF 360 FGZ could only tilt).

The Mount Cap Lens for the Pentax Q (pictured above) was originally announced at CP+ 2012, but it was never put on display.  This flat lens will deliver pinhole-type effects on the Pentax Q.

Although there have been rumors of a new Ricoh fixed-lens camera, we currently do not know whether or not there will be anything else new at the show apart from the recently-announced Optio WG-3.
