By PF Staff in CP+ 2017 on Feb 24, 2017
The annual CP+ 2017 photo trade show— which takes place just outside of Tokyo— just kicked off today (Feburary 23rd). Being so close to home, this show is among the most important for Pentax and Ricoh. This year, the entire lineup of cameras and lenses was on display:
- Ricoh Theta SC
- Ricoh GR II
- Ricoh WG series
- Pentax K-mount full frame system
- Pentax K-mount APS-C system
- Pentax Q system
- Pentax 645Z system
- Binoculars
Let's take a closer look at the booth.
Pentax KP
Pentax KP in silver and black along with all Limited lenses in both colors
As the most recent Pentax product to hit the market, the new Pentax KP was the center of attention at the show. This unique camera delivers the best in APS-C image quality along with a mix of performance, compactness, and value to revive and redefine the mid-range DSLR for Pentax. According to Ricoh Imaging representatives, video improvements have been made to the KP, and soon both the KP and K-1 will have access to sensor-shift stabilization in video via a firmware update.
The KP started shipping today and is currently available with free overnight shipping at Adorama.

Full Frame Lens System
Last year's launch of the Pentax K-1 full-frame thrilled long-time Pentax fans and newcomers alike.

With only 7 lenses, though, the D FA lens system is badly in need of expansion. This is also a key area that Pentax plans to target in the very near future. At the show, Pentax released a new full-frame roadmap and announced plans to soon launch premium D FA★ 50mm F1.4 and D FA★ 85mm F1.4 lenses. In addition, a telephoto zoom (70-300mm or similar) has been added to the roadmap, likely as a budget alternative to the existing big and heavy 150-450mm and 70-200mm lenses.
Beyond these three lenses, the future also holds a fast wide prime, fisheye zoom, and ultra-wide prime for the full-frame format. A prototype of the 50mm F1.4 lens can be found below:
This wraps up the new products/announcements from this year's show- but of course, there's much more to cover about the booth. Stay tuned for part 2 of our booth images, as well the exciting things that we learned in our exclusive interview with Ricoh Imaging.
