Pentax K-1 Triple Giveaway: Summer 2018

We are giving away three K-1 bodies!

By PF Staff in Giveaways and Events on Jun 1, 2018

Summers are usually slow in the Pentax world, as trade shows, product announcements, and deals typically dominate either the start or end of each year.  This summer, though, will be different...

We are giving away 3 brand new Pentax K-1 bodies— one each in June, July, and August.

The giveaway will be simple: the camera will be up for grabs once the community reaches 40,000 posts in any given month.  This should prove quite easy: it's equivalent to all of May's posters making just 5 posts throughout June.  As an added bonus, if we reach 60,000 posts in any month, that K-1 will turn in to a K-1 Mark II (a $1996 value).

When we reach the target number of posts, we will create two raffle threads, separated by 12 hours (giving users in various time zones the opportunity to enter).  The first 50 users to reply to each thread will get one raffle entry, and then the winner will be picked at random.  If you don't win the camera, we'll have some free account upgrades and shirts for our most active participants— plus, you are guaranteed to have plenty of fun on the forum along the way.

Track current giveaway progress at the top of any page on the forum:

To recap:

  • The community must reach 40,000 posts each month
  • At that point, 2 threads will be created 12 hours apart, and the first 50 posters in each will get a raffle entry
  • The winner is drawn at random
  • We will ship a K-1 to the winner
  • If the community reachest 60,000 by the end of the month, the prize gets upgraded to a K-1 II

Why three cameras?  We've wanted to do a K-1 giveaway from quite some time now, so this makes up for no camera giveaway in 2016 and 2017.  This will also be our largest giveaway to date, celebrating the 4,000,000 post milestone.

The full-frame K-1 is currently the most popular Pentax DSLR.  Learn more in our in-depth review.

Good luck, and let's make this a great summer! Follow the buttons below to get involved:

*Fine print: to prevent cheating, we will limit raffle entries to accounts with at least one post during the contest period and registered for at least 24 hours. Limit one entry per household. No purchase necessary; open to users worldwide. Shipping is included; user responsible for any customs fees or duties.  PentaxForums.com management reserves all rights.

Rupert Memorial Photo Contest Winners

Top "backyard wild animals" photos

By PF Staff in Giveaways and Events on May 2, 2018

Late last year, we lost Rupert, a passionate Pentaxian who became a dear friend to much of the Pentax Forums community over the course of more than 11 years as a member.  Rupert had been a big part of PF since the start; he originally joined just one day after we launched the site.

To honor his memory, we launched a special memorial photo contest back in February with Rupert's favorite subject matter as the theme: "Backyard Wild Animals".  Since then we saw some 200 submissions by 155 users.  All of these wonderful photos reminded us of Rupert's fun and positive spirit. If you'd like to see them all, feel free to browse the submissions in the special gallery or directly on the forum.

Today, we're excited to announce the contest winners!  While our judges were of course looking at photographic merit, more importantly these photos embody Rupert's style of capturing pictures of wildlife frequenting his back yard.

Winner

All our judges agree that this photo was undeniably something that Rupert would love.  Thus, Pearsaab is our winner and the recipient of the Otis Memorial Pentaxian forum account upgrade, featuring unlimited attachment space to share photos.  Pearsaab adds:

"Every time I see a squirrel I think of Rupert. He brought so much fun and laughter to the forum and will be immensely missed. I have no doubt he is chasing squirrels and making heaven a better place. Rupert will always be in our thoughts!!!"

"No other picture would do justice" by pearsaab

2nd Place

"Shooting through" flowers gives this photo a very special look that could be common in a backyard setting.  Robg, our runner-up, will also be receiving the same forum account upgrade.

PentaxForums Donates $1200 to Hurricane Relief

Large donation raised by forum members

By PF Staff in Giveaways and Events on Oct 2, 2017

When we first announced our hurricane fundraiser at the beginning of September, Hurricane Harvey had ravaged parts of Texas, causing damage on a historical scale.  Later in September, two more record-breaking hurricanes displaced even more victims in Puerto Rico and Florida.

We are happy to announce that through Pentax eBook and T-shirt sales during the month of September, we are able to raise $1200 to aid hurricane relief.  We have now donated this amount to charity, with half going to the Rebuild Texas Foundation for Harvey victims, and the other half for the American Red Cross for relief in Puerto Rico and Florida.

We plan to continue the giving, with 50% of eBook proceeds during the month of October going to those victims who need the most aid.  You can support the cause by  ordering a Pentax eBook, or, if you've already done so, consider donating directly through the PayPal Giving Fund, which lets you support the organization of your choice with just 2 easy clicks.

Big thanks go out for everyone's generosity in this time of need.  Your donations will make a big difference in communities affected by the recent disasters!

Pentax Forums Hurricane Fundraiser

Proceeds from Pentax eBooks, PF T-shirts to be donated to charity

By PF Staff in Giveaways and Events on Sep 2, 2017

Last week, the US state of Texas started suffering flooding of historic proportions aftering being hit by heavy rains and winds caused by Hurricane Harvey.  Thousands of people are stranded outside their homes while the total cost of damages is estimated to be in the tens of billions of dollars.  Worst of all, homeowners without flood insurance are otherwise left without assistance toward repairs.

In partnership with author Yvon Bourque, we'd therefore like to help those in need by donating 100% of proceeds from Pentax eBook sales to charity during the entire month of September.   We will also contribute a portion of stanard forum donations and T-shirt sales.

The proceeds will be donated to the Rebuild Texas Fund, an organization endorsed by the Texas governor seeking to provide long-term assistance to rebuild damaged communities in Texas.  We'll announce the size of the donation at the end of the month.

Update: in light of the recent distasters, we will also donate to relief efforts in Florida and Puerto Rico.
