Ricoh WG-6 Firmware Update Adds Webcam Functionality

WG-6 firmware version 1.06

By wadge22 in Firmware Updates on May 6, 2022

Ricoh Imaging released a new firmware update for the Ricoh WG-6 (firmware v1.06) on April 21, 2022.

This update adds an exciting new capability to the WG-6, allowing the camera to be used as a USB web camera when connected to a PC. This webcam function includes the ability to utilize the camera's macro feature to focus as close as 1 cm, unusual for a webcam. The camera's ring lights are also available in webcam mode at nine different intensity levels, useful both for the macro function as well as for videoconferencing in poorly lit environments. The webcam mode shoots in Full HD (1080p) at 30 fps, and relies on the camera's internal battery for power.

With this new webcam functionality, the WG-6 adds to its already impressive list of capabilities. The WG-6 is rugged and weather-proof, rated as waterproof down to 20 meters (65.6 feet), freeze-proof down to -10 °C (14 °F), and for drops from 2.1m (6'10"). It has a 20 MP, 1/2.3" sensor, and is capable of 4k in video mode (1080p in webcam mode). The camera features a 5mm-25mm zoom lens (approximately 28-140mm in 35mm equivalent), with minimum focusing distance of 1cm. It is available in either black or orange.  The Ricoh WG-6 currently retails for US$346.95

Ricoh GR III v1.60, GR IIIx v1.10 Firmware Update Released

New firmware brings updates from GR IIIx to all GR III models

By wadge22 in Firmware Updates on Apr 9, 2022

Ricoh Imaging released new firmware updates for the GR III (firmware v1.60) and GR IIIx (v1.10). These updates provide all GR III owners with new features from the GR IIIx Urban Edition, such as:

  • Snap Distance Priority mode, a new exposure setting: Once the preferred distance for snapshots and the desired depth of field (DOF) are set in advance, the camera lets the user quickly and easily recall these settings. This setting is programmed to select the aperture, providing the depth of field used in pan-focus photography, making it particularly handy for quick snapshot photography.
  • Auto Area AF (Center) focus mode: Instead of covering the entire image field, this mode operates only in nine focus zones around the center of the image field, preventing the camera from focusing on unintended elements, such as a grassy field in the foreground of an image.
  • Enable AF mode shutter-release capability: When the shutter-release button is pressed halfway down, the user can lock the AF system only, without locking the AE system.
  • Snapshot mode: A distance setting of 11.5 feet (3.5 meters) has been added to the Snapshot mode; and a long press on the monitor during playback allows the user to instantly recall the playback function selection menu.

Like all updates, these are cumulative and include everything added in prior updated firmware versions.

New firmware brings Astrotracer Type 3 to K-3 III and the Satobi JPEG profile to K-1 family

By wadge22 in Firmware Updates on Mar 4, 2022

Ricoh Imaging has released a series of long-awaited firmware updates for three of its Pentax DSLRs: the K-3 III, the K-1, and the K-1 II.

The new Pentax K-3 III firmware adds Astrotracer Type 3, which allows Astrotracer shots without a GPS unit by taking a reference shot. This feature had already been released as a beta version to select users, but is now an official function for all users. This firmware update also improves autofocus when using the viewfinder, as well as stability and performance improvements.

The new Pentax K-1 and Pentax K-1 II firmware adds the Satobi Custom Image profile. The Satobi profile delivers slightly muted colors, and gives an artistic nostalgic look to JPEGs straight out of the camera. This profile has previously been available on the K-3 III, and is now on the K-1 and K-1 II. This firmware update also brings stability and performance improvements.
