Pentax 645Z v1.22 and 645D v1.32 Firmware

Updates add compatibility with D FA 35mm lens

Pentax 645Z v1.22 and 645D v1.32 Firmware

Ricoh Imaging has recently released firmware updates for both the 645Z and 645D medium format bodies to add support for the new HD Pentax-D FA 35mm F3.5 wide-angle lens.  In addition to this, both updates contain the usual suite of minor stability fixes.

The Digital Camera Utility 5 software was also updated with profiles for the new lens as well as other features and addition.

Pentax 645Z firmware update instructions:

  1. Download the latest firmware ZIP file
  2. Extract the file to a folder of your choosing
  3. Locate the extracted .BIN file and copy it to the root (top level i.e. outside of any folder) of a formatted SD card
  4. Insert the card into your camera's SD1 slot and ensure the battery fully charged
  5. Turn the camera power on while pressing the MENU button
  6. Select "Yes"at the firmware prompt
  7. Once the screen displays "Complete", turn off your camera
  8. Power your camera back on and resume normal use
  9. In order to verify that the firmware update was successful, go to the firmware option under the setup (wrench icon) menu tab, and confirm that the indicated firmware version matches that of the update.

Pentax 645D firmware update instructions:

  1. Download the latest firmware ZIP file
  2. Unzip the zip file to a folder of your choosing
  3. Locate the extracted .BIN file and copy it to the root (top level i.e. outside of any folder) of a formatted SD card
  4. Insert the card into your camera's SD2 slot and ensure it is fully charged
  5. Turn the camera power on while pressing the Menu button
  6. Select "Yes"at the firmware prompt
  7. Once the screen displays "Complete", turn off your camera
  8. Power your camera back on and resume normal use
  9. In order to verify that the firmware update was successful, hold the menu button while powering your camera on.  The screen should indicate version 1.30.  You should then power off your camera and resume normal use.

Note that all updates are cumulative, so you do not need to install or download previous updates (nor is it possible to do so).
