Pentax K30 Kit Price Leak: 699 Pounds

Amazon.co.uk seems to have prematurely listed the new mid-range Pentax K30 DSLR on their web site even though the camera isn't due to be officially announced until next week.  The listing was taken down a few hours after we noticed it.

This makes one wonder whether or not mistakes such as these are genuine mess-ups, or if stores are doing it on purpose to gain early publicity.  Earlier this year, we saw Adorama list the Pentax Optio WG-2 about two weeks before it was actually announced.

K-01 kit currently sells for.  Considering that the Amazon.com price for the K-01 kit is $899, we suspect that the new K30 will share the same price tag, or possibility be bumped up to $949 MSRP.  Similarly, we suspect that the K30 body-only will be priced at $799-$849.  This would make sense, as it would be slightly more expensive than the K-01 while still being much cheaper than the upcoming Pentax flagship DSLR (at launch).

This is only slightly ($50-100) more than what the Pentax K-r, the K30's predecessor, was launched at; the K-r body-only MSRP was $799, the 18-55mm kit was $849, and the 18-55mm + 50-200mm kit was $999.

Another revelation that the Amazon listing made was that the Pentax K30 will start shipping on June 25, 2012 in the UK. The same is likely to apply in other countries.

It's also interesting that based on the listing, Pentax will be selling the K30 with the DA L 18-55mm lens, rather than the weather resistant version.  For us, this is indicative of two things:

• That the K30 is indeed an entry-level replacement for the K-r
• That Pentax wants to keep things affordable for beginners while still offering the WR lens as an option

The K30's price in the rest of Europe, as mentioned in our original announcement, will be 799 Euros for a special kit with the WR lens and 699 Euros for the body only.
