Are Pentax lens prices going up again?

It appears that Pentax's US suggested retail prices on a number of genuine Pentax lenses might be going up again; the table below, based on yesterday's prices at authorized retailers and the new prices, contains the specifics.  Please note that we've rounded all prices for the sake of readability.

Old Price

DA 14mm F2.8 $710 $950 $240
FA 31mm F1.8 Limited $990 $1300 $310
FA 35mm F2 $400 $600 $200
FA 43mm F1.9 Limited $585 $750 $165

FA 77mm F1.8 Limited $800 $1050 $250
DA 10-17mm F3.5-4.5 $530 $650** $120
DA 12-24mm F4 $730 $900 $170
DA 17-70mm F4 $490 $600 $110
DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 $370 $400 $30

These new prices are now reflected on the Adorama, Amazon, and Abe's of Maine web sites. B&H has not upped their prices as of the time of this posting, so act fast if you'd like to get some savings in before it's too late!  To the best of our knowledge, this is not a temporary price increase.

For consistently-sane prices on Pentax lenses, we invite you to visit our Photographer's Marketplace!

Despite other efforts, such as the recently-announced instant rebates and camera price reductions, with this move Pentax seems to be straying farther and farther away from being a value brand, at least from the perspective of current camera owners who are in need of lenses and not more camera bodies.  With these new prices in place, third-party alternatives to popular lenses by Sigma and Tamron will likely make it into the hands of even more of our members.
