The lens profile will include Tamron's Di series (lenses for full size image sensors) and the Di II series (lenses for cameras with APS-C size image sensors) and will be used to create a plug-in bundled in the Camera Raw® 6.2 update and the function for Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom® 3.2. Future lenses are expected to also be included in this profile.

Hoya sells off magnetic media operations

$235 million in cash proceeds to Hoya

By PF Staff in Third-Party Announcements on Aug 29, 2010

Western Digital Corporation has agreed to purchase the magnetic media sputtering operations of Hoya Corporation and Hoya Magnetics Singapore Pte. Ltd. for 22 billion yen (approximately $235 million) in an all-cash transaction. The agreement includes a multi-year commitment for glass substrate supply related to these operations from Hoya, solidifying WD's access to a key component for its 2.5-inch hard drive business and further enhancing the ongoing partnership between the companies. The acquisition will augment WD's existing magnetic media operations, strengthening its ability to meet anticipated growth in demand for hard drives in the years ahead.

We anticipate that this cash boost for Hoya will also allocate funds for further development of Pentax DSLRs, including possibly a full-frame body.

By PF Staff in Third-Party Announcements on Aug 25, 2010

Forum member Warped posted a review of the 645D yesterday, and wefelt the community might be intrested in reading all the interesting things he had to say about it.  "To say I'm impressed with the 645D is a HUGE understatement" is among the first things Warped said about the camera- and we're not surprised, because Pentax's goal with this camera was to deliver the ultimate in image quality- and it seems they have been successfull.  Please proceed to the full Pentax 645D review to read more!

The Pentax 645D, released earlier this year, is a medium-format DSLR featuring a 40-megapixel sensor designed primarily for high image quality. The sensor's area measures more than twice that of a full-frame 35mm DSLR, and, as such, can be expectedto produce clear, sharp images.  The camera featurs several other innovations, and is compatible with Pentax's lineup of 645 lenses.  Please proceed to the Pentax 645D factsheet in our camera reviews section for more detals on the camera itself.
