For my trip to Japan I took my Pentax K-1, but had to choose some convenient lenses as I couldn't bring everything with me.

I left my big and heavy fast zooms behind in France and travelled with the smc Pentax-FA 28-105mm F3.2-4.5 and the Sigma 70-300mm APO DG F4-5.6. This choice was made based on their weight and the space available in my luggage. And the space thus gained allowed me to bring some fast primes for the darkest hours of the day.

Most of the time I shot with these two lenses, acting like a tourist more than a photographer. The need to visit many points of interest did not allow for me to be everywhere at the best hours regarding the light, nor simply the best days.

But a good photo is sometimes a question of luck.

We're herewith announcing our monthly photo contest for June. The theme for this month is "Macro - Flowers and Plants".

This month we're looking for macro photos of flowers and/or plants. Get up close and show us some fine details of your subject. Good luck!

First prize is a $50 gift card to B&H Photo, second prize is a one year forum account upgrade, and third prize is a box of photo paper form Red River.

Voting has ended for our April, 2019 "Springtime" photo contest with the following result:

In first place was forum member sad_punk from France who captured "Bird in Ueno Park" (pictured above). This photo was shot with a Pentax K-1 and an Sogma 70-300mm lens.

Our runners-up were forum member slowpez from USA in second place with "Spring Renewal" and edri from Romania in third place with "A Morning in the Spring". Click on either thumbnail for a larger version.
